overview:

Whether you're a photographer chasing perfect light, an explorer seeking hidden gems, or simply an adventurer at heart, today promises an unforgettable journey through one of New Zealand's most spectacular regions.

The northwest of the South Island is a land of contrasts—where pristine freshwater springs meet wild, windswept coastlines, and lush native forest gives way to towering sea cliffs and golden sand dunes. The sheer beauty and diversity here are so captivating, many visitors wish they never had to leave.

As we make our way over Takaka Hill to Golden Bay, we'll pause at the sacred Te Waikoropupū Springs, a place of deep cultural significance to Māori and home to some of the clearest freshwater in the world. A short loop walk leads through remnants of old gold workings and regenerating native forest before revealing the astonishing clarity of the main springs, which release an incredible 14,000 litres per second.

Continuing north to the base of Farewell Spit, we'll scan the skies and wetlands for the region's many migratory birds—seasonal visitors from far-flung corners of the globe.

From here, venture to the dramatic expanse of Wharariki Beach, reached by a classic New Zealand farm track winding past sheep, cattle, dune lakes, and traces of ancient Māori food pits. As we emerge from wind-sculpted manuka forest, the grandeur of the coastline unfolds: enormous sea cliffs, cavernous caves, island arches, and ever-changing surf. This wild, elemental landscape is a feast for the senses—alive with raw nature's energy.

Climb the towering white sand dunes and, as you look back across the dramatic terrain, take a moment to reflect on the richness of the experience—before reluctantly beginning the journey home.

Fantastic and magical day in Abel!

It was such a fantastic and most beautiful day in Abel. Alan is the most funny and informative guide I ever had! I had a wonderful time hiking and taking the cruise with this small group day trip from Nelson. Highly recommend if you are a solo traveller like me.

An absolute must do in Nelson

From start to finish this was an absolutely brilliant experience that we would highly
recommend to anyone who is considering it. Not just a wine tour but a trip around the local area and waterfront. Our driver, Sonia was a wealth of knowledge about the area and the vineyards we visited. Very friendly, easy going and nothing was a problem. Small groups are always the best way to go.

Great day in Golden Bay

This is a very valuable excursion because it gives you a taste of lots of the elements that define this region. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who was refreshingly
enthusiastic and accommodating.

If there is one tour you should go on while in Nelson, this is it!

The full day Abel Tasman cruise and hike. Personalised, knowledgeable, and enjoyable. From the moment of pick-up, to cruising the Abel Tasman coast, then a hike to other beaches - learning about the plants and trees, a stop for a fabulous lunch, and a cruise and
drive back. All wrapped up with a terrific guide and host! Thank you Wayne. Truly 5-star!! Outstanding day. Highly recommend
